IEEE C57.18.10-2021 is a published standard from the IEEE for transformers that supply semiconductor power rectifiers. It adds to the general transformer requirements the particular conditions of rectifier duty, such as harmonic-rich current and direct-current loading, and gives manufacturers and owners a shared basis for rating and proving these units.

The standard applies to transformers whose job is to feed rectifier equipment, as found in electrochemical plants, large direct-current drives, metal processing and similar industrial installations. Rectifier loads differ from ordinary power loads because the current is not sinusoidal and the winding arrangement often has to produce multiphase output, so the document addresses the ratings, construction expectations, loading considerations and verification tests that suit that duty. Manufacturers use it to design and prove rectifier transformers, owners use it in purchase specifications, and testing engineers use it when they inspect these units and check their turns ratio and insulation. It is meant to be read together with the general-requirements document for the same transformer family. This page describes the document in original words and does not reproduce it.
